I am currently working on another one-person show. It will be a follow-up to my first one-person show, "The Confusion of My Illusion." As the title indicates, my shows are always a combination of truth and fiction, part autobiographical and part fantasy. "The Confusion of My Illusion" detailed events that took place up through my first few years in Hollywood. A lot has obviously changed since then in my personal life and my career which were described in the show for that particular period in my life. In the play, I described meeting my "dream man" that I had fantasized about as a little girl. I named the character "Adam" because I opened the play as a transgender Eve (from The Bible) who was actually born Steve searching for her "main man"...Adam. The facts surrounding my meeting with "Adam" were in fact true, but his real name is Sonny, and no he's not a priest...although he could be described as a saint. He is one of the most amazing men I've ever met in my life. He is the most chivalrous prince charming and makes me feel like a complete princess. I'm so fortunate to have met this man, and he has forever changed my life. He is my boyfriend and we've been together for five years, and I hope we will be together forever. You will get to hear all about it in my new show. I can't wait for you to meet him. And how ironic that "the dream man" be named Sonny. Just call me Cher. ;-)

KELLY MANTLE

How long have you been performing in drag?
When I was five years old I insisted on auditioning for the role of Little Orphan Annie. They turned me away, but I still felt pretty, dammit!

What influences your drag persona?
I’m like a tranny on a hot tin roof. My only pain is champagne. I’m a little glam, I’m a little film noir.

Drag horror story:
I had just moved to L.A., and it was my very first movie premiere red carpet event. As I pulled up to the event in the dimly lit parking lot, I fished around in my purse for my lipliner and touched up my lips. I strutted up and down that red carpet, photos flashing, mingling with the stars. Then 20 minutes later when I went to the bathroom to freshen up, I realized that I had outlined my lips in black eyeliner. I wondered why everyone was looking at me so strange.

Where to find Kelly Mantle:
Her one-person show, The Confusion Of My Illusion, running at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center Theatre March 26 through April 11. Tranzkuntinental at The Roxy on April 23. Visit kellymantle.com for more info.
